Sometimes, 45-minute sessions are not enough, and you want more time without the pressure of wrapping up and waiting another week to continue your work.
Regular talk therapy usually happens once a week, unfolds over a few months to years, and is helpful when experiencing mild to moderate symptom severity.
Extended and intensive sessions are designed for those who want a little “pep in their step” for improvement and healing.
Extended and Intensive Sessions
Extended and intensive sessions are a more concentrated, accelerated pace of treatment, which decreases the overall length of therapy.
We will work together during the initial assessment to identify key issues, set goals, and develop strategies for achieving your goals within the condensed timeframe.
If you find the standard weekly structure too slow and spaced out, extended or intensive sessions are a great option!
Extended and intensive sessions include the option to use eye movement therapy (Accelerated Resolution Therapy), which will be determined during assessment.
Extended Sessions
Extended sessions are two back-to-back sessions (90 minutes) per week for individuals and two back-to-back sessions (two hours) for couples.
Extended sessions allow you to fully immerse yourself in unpacking a specific problem and making significant progress in getting yourself unstuck from those repetitive cycles you keep finding yourself in.
Intensive Sessions
Intensive sessions are longer in duration (three hours each) and frequency (two or three times per week), but consolidate your therapy journey into a few weeks instead of the typical months and years.
Intensives are helpful because there is less opportunity for new concerns to come up in between sessions.
Intensives typically have a focused treatment plan tailored to your specific goals, concerns, and symptoms.
After intensives, you can continue with weekly, biweekly, or monthly check-in sessions if you wish to do so.
Safety First!
Although intensives are faster-paced and great options for some, they are not for everyone.
When addressing trauma or painful experiences, my main focus is ensuring your safety and meeting you with empathy and gentleness.
During our initial consultation call, we will determine if you are a good fit for intensive treatment or if extended/regular sessions would be a better fit.
What to Expect
During extended or intensive sessions, I take on a more dynamic role where we spend less time talking about current or past problems, and more time addressing the repeated cycles and patterns in your life.
Together, we’ll pierce through the superficial symptoms and issues, and see directly into the core wounds.
We’ll work to heal the part of you that is stuck in the past, unable to move past the hurt you have endured.
Homework
In between our meetings, I will assign you homework to continue the momentum we started in the session.
Homework helps you stay focused on your goals, figure out how to be in alignment with yourself, and create healthier patterns in your present life to heal the stuck part of you.
Homework can include journaling exercises, trauma-informed body movement (yoga, pilates, meditation), letter writing, behavioral experiments, relaxation exercises, mindful eating, body scans, or communication exercises.
